Project Description
The MHP Arena (formerly Mercedes-Benz Arena) is one of Europe’s most recognizable football stadiums, distinguished by its iconic spoke-wheel cable net membrane roof. As one of the largest cable-supported membrane roof structures on the continent, it has become a landmark of modern stadium architecture and engineering, providing an unobstructed spectator experience while creating a lightweight and visually striking appearance.
PFEIFER Structures carried out the technically demanding modification and subsequent refurbishment of the stadium roof. As part of the stadium’s conversion into a dedicated football venue, the membrane roof was extended inwards using a lightweight cable-supported structural system to protect the new seating areas closer to the pitch. Several years later, all the 40 membrane segments had to be replaced covering approximately 37.000 m² with new titanium dioxide-coated membranes, significantly enhancing the roof’s durability and extending its service life.
