Originally constructed for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, London Stadium has been transformed into one of the United Kingdom’s most versatile sports and entertainment venues. Its innovative design allows the stadium to accommodate international athletics, Premier League football, concerts, and major cultural events while maintaining exceptional flexibility and spectator experience.
To enable the transformation works PFEIFER Structures had been awarded with two scopes of works: one for the intelligent disassembling of the existing complete membrane and cable net structure with as much sustainable re-use of elements as possible. These works prepared the way for the new, largest cantilevering stadium roof of the world. Second scope had been for the erection of the new cable net roof, supporting the re-used lighting elements and the secondary steel structure with its polycarbonate cover.
