Project Description
The Merkur Spiel-Arena is a multifunctional stadium designed for football matches, concerts and major international events throughout the year. One of its defining technical features is the approximately 8,000 m² retractable roof, which consists of movable metal panels and can completely close and darken the arena. The roof can be opened or closed within approximately 30 minutes, providing reliable weather protection and maximum flexibility for different event formats.
In 2020, PFEIFER Structures upgraded the control system of the retractable roof. The work focused on improving the reliable operation and monitoring of the large movable roof structure while integrating the new control technology into the existing mechanical and electrical infrastructure.
The modernised system coordinates the controlled movement of the individual roof components and supports the safe opening and closing process. Through this technical upgrade, PFEIFER Structures helped ensure the long-term availability of the retractable roof and the continued year-round operation of one of Germany’s most versatile event arenas.
