Project Description

Monkey Valley at London Zoo is the result of the sensitive restoration and transformation of the Grade II* listed Snowdon Aviary. Originally completed in the 1960s, the pioneering tensile structure was repurposed as a spacious walkthrough habitat for black-and-white colobus monkeys while preserving its distinctive cable-supported architecture.

PFEIFER Structures delivered the specialist cable and tensile-structure works required for the refurbishment of the historic enclosure. The scope included the adaptation and renewal of structural cable components and the installation of a new lightweight mesh enclosure integrated into the existing supporting system. Precise engineering and installation were essential to retain the structure’s original architectural character while meeting the technical, safety, and operational requirements of its new use.
