Project Description
The modernisation of the historic Silesian Stadium included the construction of an impressive lightweight roof covering the entire grandstand area. The approximately 45,000 m² roof is formed by two compression rings, an inner tension ring and radial cable girders, creating an efficient cable-net structure with minimal visual obstruction and clear views of the playing field.
PFEIFER Structures played a central role in completing the technically demanding roof project. The scope included the inspection, repair and reuse of existing structural components as well as the supply of approximately 600 tonnes of steelwork, cables and connection elements. This required precise coordination between the cable system, steel structure and roof cladding to achieve the specified geometry and prestress of the large-span structure.
The cable-net roof is covered with approximately 45,000 m² of translucent polycarbonate, divided into 360 individually fabricated panels. The lightweight material provides permanent weather protection while allowing natural daylight to reach the grandstands. PFEIFER Structures also supplied a structural monitoring system that supports the inspection and long-term maintenance of the roof. The completed structure combines engineering precision, transparency and durability while preserving the distinctive character of one of Poland’s most important sports venues.
