Project Description
Volksparkstadion is one of Germany’s premier football venues, renowned for hosting Bundesliga matches, international tournaments, and major live events. As part of the stadium’s development, PFEIFER Structures delivered sophisticated structural steel solutions that combined engineering precision with the demanding requirements of a modern sports venue.
The roof extends over the entire spectator area of the fully renovated stadium, providing continuous coverage for the seating bowl. Its structural concept is based on an inner tension ring connected to an outer compression ring by means of 40 radially arranged cable trusses. The compression ring is supported by 40 steel masts positioned around the perimeter of the stadium behind the grandstands.
The cable trusses span up to 72 m, defining the overall depth of the roof structure. The roofing material consists of a PVC-coated polyester membrane that is tensioned into a doubly curved geometry by a secondary supporting system. This configuration ensures both the structural stability and the architectural form of the lightweight roof.
